The First Year in Corporate World!!!

First year @Corporate World.

businessman-2753324_640

Just completed one year in Deloitte and experienced enough to guide the freshers for their new journey.

This post is about general corporate experience and not about any particular firm, or for that matter ‘Deloitte’.

Now before the experience I want to clear one thing about Deloitte, ‘perception’. There is this thinking that Deloitte offers consultancy profile where we will be talking to the client and won’t be doing technical work. Guys when Deloitte is hiring from some technical it knows why and it wants you to do some technical work here, else it would go to some MBA or other college where students are having good communication skills. You think if you yourself don’t know how the work is done what will you talk to the client?

Even after 4-5 years of experience you won’t be doing this job, what you will be doing is technical work. So if you are good in technical things then you will get a lot of respect from the firm (any firm). I do coding and people 7 years more experienced than me do coding. So don’t think you will be trapped in a non-technical job and won’t grow. But yes the environment here is a little care free, that will make you a little lazy, and if you switch the company from Deloitte to some other hard core technical firm, you might face difficulty out there, in terms of following their schedule and deadlines for the work. I think you can force your self to do things on time and learn by yourself, Rest everything is very good here including communication skills, friendly environment, people from different background plus good amount of learning and the growth opportunities.

Now when I joined this firm, I was of course excited to be a part of such a reputed firm and ready to learn from the people here.  Starting 3 months were like honeymoon for us, we had trainings, where I again sat on the first bench and made extensive notes, answered questions, asked doubts and did all those things which a wanna be topper would do. But now I am in a firm not in a school or coaching class. Even in college people will make fun of you, if you do such kind of things. Same thing happened here too [Not actual fun], but they told me ‘You want to get first rank or what here, why are you still a student?’, I started laughing and told guys you should be student throughout your life, that’s the only way to grow up. But after 2-3 days I was back on my masti-mood. Taking pics in the class with the instructor present in the class. Got tea/coffee inside, while it was not allowed, didn’t follow the line which these people make to get free lunch during training. Cracked jokes, sung songs in the bus, even danced with the music on.

After one month, started our project where we were told to read the documents and apply the knowledge that we get. We had technical trainings based on the technology assigned to us. In the starting I was involved in a lot of non-project related fun activities – this is the list of what all I did in the firm in first year [By reading all these activities you will not be able to judge whether I am in college or in the firm]

1. Dance Performance

2. Fashion Show [Model 😛 ]

3. Skits [total – 3] , Ad-Mad Show

4. 3 Flash mobs

5. Played dholak and shouted slogans in the firm.:P

and a lot more things… 🙂 🙂

But after completing half year I was moved out from my first project [Still don’t know the reason, but was good], then I realized that why I am here. I am here not to dance not to play dholak I am here to work.

“If the firms wants some actor or dancer, they will hire somebody from art school who is more professional and will take less money. The firm hired you from a technical school, so you should be doing technical things here”  🙂

These extra activities are there for you to make you networks in the firm and when you don’t have any work, use this network and get some work for your self so that you have something to show in the year end performance evaluation meeting. I then took advantage of my network and the work came automatically to me, I left other things or minimized them. Concentrated on my technical skills and developed some of the useful apps for the firm which it is using now :). Feels happy about that and learnt a lot of things trough it. Still not very sound in technical skills but trying and learning.

Got a good feedback in the year end performance evaluation [worked hard for it]. Now people around me were confused how I got those ratings while they never saw me working. Well I guys I don’t work to show but ya I show my work 😉 , when I am done with it.

I worked even late nights and on weekends to achieve what ever I have got till date and still have to work really hard to get what all I want from my life [the satisfaction 😉 ]. This is the time and age to work, we are not married [plus I don’t have a girlfriend 😉 ], we don’t have responsibilities on us, so we can surely devote our time to work, learn and grow so as to make our future more secure and support the people who are responsible for your success and make them happy [your parents/family].

Now I hear a lot of people saying, I want to change my job, I am done here, the job is boring, the people here sucks – Guys you decide your past, present and future – “If you are not happy with what and where you are you will never be happy”. So try fighting with the odds.

Like all other people I am also confused about my future [job-another firm/MBA-CAT/MS-GRE]. So trying for other things but my priority is always my current job, completed 1.4 years in the firm. Even working now while I am writing this post on a Saturday evening – I enjoy it. 🙂

[Will be updated soon.]

Placement Fair 2010, DA-IICT B.Tech-2007

“After 4-5 years of your career nobody will ask you what was your package in the first company you worked in, instead you”ll be asked in which company you worked for the first time”

Duration: May_2010 – August_2010

Just after third year got finished along with the end of SEN (Software engineering) course which is a very heavy course according to students ( though I never felt anything like that, we enjoyed it a lot 😉 ), we started with our preparation for placements. It was told that companies will start visiting our campus with the start of July and everybody wants to get out of these placements as soon as possible. Now that is not by doing some forbidden things or breaking any rules but going out with a nice offer ( not necessarily A 😛 ) in hand.

We have two categories A and B, where B includes salary from any amount (can be..30 Rs. a day. 😛 ) to 3.99 L/A and A includes 4 – X L/A (X can be anything even in million 😉 ). For the detailed polices along with rules and regulations visit SPC site Placements @DA-IICT

We all studied very hard in this summer (2010) along with our Research/Industrial Internship (some did it seriously like us 😉 ). I made detailed notes of each and everything from C, C++, Java, DSA, DBMS, CNS, OS, SEN and Computer Graphics (whosoever need it contact me, price negotiable 😛 ). I was ready with 5-6 different kind of resumes for different companies. Before it all started I told one of my good friend and my X-roomy Nikhil Rajpal (the first guy to get placed in our college, dude u rocks company:”Verse Innovations”), that I think I won’t be placed in the starting of the process, god will force me to face ( let me enjoy ) the real taste of process where before every round you feel hungry, tensed and worried like anytime you could be shot dead :X , after every round you keep on waiting for the result (clicking refresh every time to our local webmail) feel the real fear and that’s what happened.

So here is the list of the names of companies I sat for (told to stand up and get out.. :X :X ):

1. Verse Innovations

2. Saba Softwares

3. Khotari Infotech (only presentation)

4. Accenture (Got placed  \m/ – B offer)

5. Direct-I

6. Imaginea (Pramati- its business unit)

7. Evosys

8. ZS Associates (reached to the last round but…:P)

9. Qualcomm (came for Internship only)

10. Deloitte, US (GOT SELECTED.. 🙂 -A Offer \m/)

Now here is a detailed description of the environment that was created at that time the pressure that got built up, the tension that prevailed, the de-motivation after each rejection, the destabilization with every other students’ selection, the fear before exam, the worry for the result, answering the parents and relatives about all the situations hiding some thing from them 😛 and all the fun.

6’th of August 2010:

Verse Innovation arrived in our campus, it was offering 5.5 (CTC) with internship 14,000Rs./Month which was quite good. But the main problem which some guys thought was that it was a new company which started on 17’th of April 2007 only, having its head office at Bangalore. It was into Mobile application Searches basically a query provider through SMS, WAP and Net providing newspaper(as told by them).

I attended the PPT though most of the top pointers (note that pointer doesn’t show your real achievement or intelligence, but company has got only one thing to which will be deciding factor and it does matter), so the competition was not so tough while the company profile needs you to be  proficient with JAVA and basic programming practice. I didn’t want to go for an intern at that time because I wanted to enjoy my last semester having fun here in college only, and I haven’t started JAVA. I appeared for the test and it was quite simple if you know basic JAVA concepts and good programming command. I was thrown out in the first round itself. While Nikhil Rajpal made it into the company.

1. Written Technical test (Two sections: first objective the second subjective based on JAVA )

2. Technical Interview- 2 rounds (Basic algorithms and concepts of OOP as JAVA was not taught in our college curriculum, and questions based on your resume)

7’th of August 2010:

SABA Software which was started in 1997 and head office in Redwood Shores California,  visited today still competition was not that tough because the everybody was carrying about CTC they use to think that if they are opting for A grade company it should not be on just the boundary in-spite I would suggest you guys “After 4-5 years of your career nobody will ask you what was your package in your first company while you”ll be asked in which company you worked for the first time”, so dude company name and reputation does matter The company offered 4 Lakh/annum. I was not interested in this too since it also offered internship. I sat for the test the test was simple but I was again thrown out in the first round itself 😛 .

The post offered was Software Associate and they were impressed by out seniors working there.

1. Technical Test(Programming questions subjective and a general aptitude + knowledge questions)

2. Group Discussions (For some students who just crossed the cut off)

3. Technical Interview (Again OOP concepts was required with some knowledge of JAVA)

9’th of August 2010:

Kothari Infotech from Surat visited today but due to less popularity and less growth opportunity most students didn’t even registered, while I went to PPT asked a lot of questions, answered some of them but came out of Lecture Theater, it was a simple programming test. But during PPT they actually taught a lot of  things we were feeling like  we just completed our training in Kothari Infotech LOL 😛 .

1. Programming Test written

2. Technical + HR Interview at Surat (even Microsoft don’t use to call guys for interview any where while this company did, man you should first look at the priority of the students :X )

10’th of August 2010:

Today came the first mass recruiter Accenture a multinational but with a very low package (guys at-least give us sufficient money to be able to eat and survive in your company ) 3.1 lakh/annum. I attended the PPT and thr HR ma’am who came was thinking like she is the most superior officer in the whole world today, the way she told us to bring all our certificates and documents with in 10 min. was really pathetic. We actually had an marathon as our second round for selection 😉 . Our Prof. Mr. Asim Banerjee  shouted on her which was actually required then she fine but with attitude.

I was not sure whether to sit or not as if I got selected my B-offer will be finished with such a minimum package most of the guys were in the same delima. In the presentation they told you’ll be getting ~22 thousand/ month in hand and then our Placement officer Rashmil Mishra told us that atleast they are honest they are telling you that every other B company will give you more or less the same package so if you want go for it. Then I had a talk with my father he told me to do whatever I think is correct and Abhishek Mahawar my friend asked one of his uncle who is in some IT company on a good position, he told us to go for it. Then I told myself “Khatam karo yaar aaj…”. Then we both sat for it the first was again aptitude test they selected ~93 so I got selected then it was just a child game for me, though in technical interview they asked me to code my SEN project simple page with all the basic functionality in paper in Visual C#. While attempting I asked some questions and before he was able to know whether I know the .Net language or not I came to know he don’t know .Net languages 😉 so I wrote such functions which were actually not possible and never seen by any person in the world and used them confidently. He got convinced.

While in HR round around 6:30 pm in the evening I haven’t had any snacks or lunch only a juice from morning, and then those placement committee guys kept samosa and tea before the HR interviewer, he offered me  but I said I just had..(if he was not there I would have ate all those with in seconds 😛 ), but then my eyes were on his tea only (which incidentally is my favorite drink  ) and it worked that cup of tea fell on him. I just went outside brought some tissue papers and water bottle for him an helped him. He got impressed and I got selected. 🙂

1. Aptitude Test

2. Technical Interview

3. HR Interview

12’th of August 2010:

One of the giant visited today Direct-I which was founded in 1998 and works in Social Networking software, domain providing services, Instant messages, anti-virus etc. The package offered was very nice 8-12 Lakh/annum students would have killed others if allowed to do so for that 😛 . The presentation was really nice, interactive as there were prizes (i-pod, Fast-track watches, T-Shirts ) I knew almost all the answers but was waiting for the i-pod question and in the last it came out that i-pod is for the first round topper 😦 .

The work was too much technical that too they won’t train you, you just get comfortable to their environment, ask them what you want (5 screens, 5 mouse, 3 keyboards, 4 CPUs 😛 ), you will get your food from TAJ caterers really amazing but you have to get your work done with all innovations within the deadline, you also have flexible time and gaming day 🙂 .

First round was a mix of aptitude and programming again I didn’t make it, while even if Direct-I comes to me and say they’ll give me 8 lakh CTC then too I would say no to them simply because I am not that expert in coding and really don’t want to sit in front of the computer and code 10 hours a day and also I don’t deserve it 🙂 . Each time some or the other guys were getting selected and I was there only not able to clear even the first round. Well for me first round is the biggest obstacle for mr, rest parts are just a child game.

1. Online test (Aptitude + programming)

2. Technical Interviews 3

3. Final HR + Technical round with the CEO Bhavin in Mumbai.

Only one student made through Kushagra Sharma which was not expected by anyone (not even by himself  😛 ) but he did, good one man, congo.

14’th of August 2010:

Then came the company for which I was actually preparing seriously Imaginea (Business unit of Pramati, Hyderabad) , but again here also I didn’t got selected in the first round (the students who sat behind cheated and some of them were having contacts they used it to get through first round..). I was like now nothing left for me when the result was out, but I never got depressed still I haven’t revised SQL query part of DBMS so I started for that. But then I asked SPC convener Aashish Bhagat that User interface design post is also there na, he told yes and told me to come tomorrow morning in the Interview building. I prepared my work studied for User Interface part slept only for 2 hours that night without telling anybody about that. Then I went to our SPC officer she asked those company guys and they told me to submit my portfolio, I did and finally didn’t got selected then I came to know I still need a lot of hard work in UID part 😦 .

While the package was very good ~5.6 CTC, but I heard that HR and the facilities are worse and the work Quality Assurance is writing code for checking the correctness of software was not so fascinating for me, still I wanted to get through it but didn’t.

1.  Aptitude + Java concepts (Objective Paper)

2.  Technical Interviews -2

They selected 14 students and with that all the students above me(on the basis of pointer) got selected, I didn’t knew whether I should be happy that competition is gone or should I be sad that I didn’t made it.

20’th of August 2010:

Today Evosys visited our campus which a Ahmadabad based company while its customer base was in Saudi and UAE so you have to be in those countries for at-least 6-8 months a year and package was ~4.0 which was quite good. I also had a talk with my senior there he told me a lot of things about the market and actual situation, then I got interested for it and prepared sincerely. I was sure of getting selected first the competition was not that much(even if it were I don’t have problem if I clear the first round), and second there was no aptitude round only GD and interview.

But I messed up here also , my topic was “Should oil products’ prices be regulated by market or government”, I spoke about general things without even understanding the real meaning of topic and that too I dominated on that. So again I was out from the first round itself the tragedy continues.

1. Group Discussions

2. Technical Interview -2

24’th of August 2010:

Then came one more giant this time in consultancy field, the ZS Associates, I prepared  a lot for it. I was sure of clearing the first round as it was not aptitude, the best paper for overall judgment of a person. I was sure I was in the top-5 (mite be first 🙂 ). There were two profiles BTA Business Technical Associates and BOA Business Operations Associates, with the package of 7 lakh/annum.

I cleared the first round then second was a group discussion and the topic was again the same which was there for me in Evosys so I knew what not to speak I did it well, I was on the first position in GD, then on the next morning we were called for case study round where I was a little bit confused, I had a discussion with my brother who is a MBA graduate and have a good knowledge. Still I couldn’t figure it out what actually he wanted to listen from me(he wanted mathematical equation while I presented vague idea and description ). Then they allowed me to enter the next round while I was judged after that my HR-Technical round was perfect but case study round went bad, so they thrown me out but after providing me lunch with them. I didn’t eat as much what I wanted (the food was fo good quality and FREE 😉 ) because all were finished much before me so I have to stand up 😦 . Finally I got rejected but I never lost the hope I started planning for the next company to visit that was Qualcomm for internship.

1. Aptitude+ Programming+ Creativity+ DBMS+ thought questions (written subjective test)

2. Group Discussion.

3. Case Study

4. HR+Technical Interview

5. Final HR+Technical Interview with India Head Sir Jude

18’th of August 2010:

Now Qualcomm which was scheduled on 13’th of August 2010 got postponed to 18’th of August 2010, due to which I had to cancel my Annual MSP (Microsoft Student Partner) meet 201 held in Goa, missed a good opportunity but studied very hard especially Operating System. But still here also the hard luck continues and the first round messing up continues. While I was some what sure about my selection for first round and that’s why studied whole night but I was not selected, still not demotivated since I had a B-offer of Accenture with me. 🙂

1. Technical Test (Written)

2. Technical Interview

27’th of August 2010:

Then comes the company Future First with highest package 8.32 CTC amazing who didn’t want to go in such company. But after that I came to know that once entered in this field consultancy and IT field is almost closed for you, so go only if you are interested and you should have good knowledge of market, shares, investments. Also if you make a loss to company it will just throw you out. So I figured out that this was not a job for me not because I could be thrown out but because I don’t have any idea of market, shares…(???? 😦 ). I thought I have already registered, since there was a problem with the registration link , so I went for the test it was fast calculation round, I did 31/40 questions and I was sure of getting selected but again that tragedy of first round 😦 . This time due to registration fault of mine I haven’t registered so instead of being selected they cut my name.

1. Fast calculation (40 questions in 6 min.)

2. Aptitude round

3. Game of share market (you need to invest WISELY and make maximum profit)

4. HR Interview (with share market knowledge)

They took 2 students, while on the same day one of the most popular company was also in campus DELOITTE, everybody’ dream company.

27’th of August 2010:

DELOITTE US was on visit on the same day, but I was in deli ma because I wanted to sit for National Instruments (6.87 lakh/annum, electronics profile) . As package was quite good, and the most important thing was the kind of work they provided Technical + Consultancy with a lot of exposure while dealing with different clients and that too with good location (Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore(new office) ) and most especially the tag name of DELOITTE with the profile of BTA Business Technical Associate (other was AERS Advisory Executive Risk Services which was more technical that BTA).

PPT was fantastic without any prizes it was interactive and all those 7 guys (4M, 3F) were perfect in every sense and were really fascinating. After the presentation I was clear that this the one in which I want to get into, but somewhere in my heart there was a fear for the first time in this placement fair. I don’t know why.

First round was again aptitude ( 😦 😦 ). During the test and after it I was very nervous because it was tough and I was somewhat sure of not getting selected though somewhere in my heart there was still a confidence that I will. But when I came to now that they are going to select 95 students, I was pretty much sure of my selection now as I saw my name in the list I was then sure that “Dude you got selected in Deloitte”, because I have faced almost all kinds of group discussions, technical or HR interviews, case studies and presentations. So I step by step cleared all the round though some fear was there which was required but full confidence.

Finally the list arrived and SPC Officer told me well done Shivam you made it and then I took a deep breathe, we then clicked some photos with my camera which I was carrying throughout the day for the purpose of the final photograph 😉 .

1. Aptitude

2. Case Study

3. Presentation of the case study

4. Technical + HR interview (less technical )

I faced a lot of challenges throughout the process and after getting this I am very happy because I worked so hard for this and got defeated a lot of times this was my 10’th company, but I had the courage to keep in sitting for the companies like this upto the next June (I actually mean it and was even ready for that).

Message:  God has planned the way and destiny for you with the perfect time already entered in his Excel sheet he only wants to check your passion and believe in him, just keep working hard you will get what you deserve (this is not the first time this has happened to me), so just believe him and continue on your way with smile on your face.

[Though I am nobody to give advise to any one but still this what I thought and worked out for me 🙂 ]

“The person who gets a chance to pursue his hobby as his career is the luckiest and the most satisfied person in the world, I want to be that person.”   —Hope I’ll…..;)

BEST OF LUCK ………(Y)

People are using Google Pay Smartly to Fraud OLX and Quikr Sellers

How people are using the Google Pay, to trick the sellers on OLX and Quikr.

So I will narrate the whole incident and the technique in the way it unfolded –

The incident starts on 29 July 2019, Monday, evening. I have a Fitbit Smart Watch,  – Ionic, that my wife got from US. But I wanted a smart watch which can play music directly and have internal memory – this was not what I wanted. So I decided to put it up on sale on Quikr and OLX, on 29’th evening and went to Bed.

Now this guy named – Anil [+918607126820] (got the name from True caller), called me at 7 AM in the morning (dude, we software engineers generally sleep around 3 AM, how dare u call so early 😛 ). Now on the call it appeared some guy, with not very confident voice, still trying to show authority told me – that how much do you quote as final price. I said 18k is what I can be fine with. He said – I will pay 17k, you mark your Ad as sold to me. He asked me for my google pay QR code and said he will pay now. [Not sure, whether he got the Ad detail from OLX or Quikr]. I was a little bit suspicious, since I have only put the photos of the band, without even switching it ON. Now there is a guy, who wants to pay for the product upfront, without even knowing the exact condition. I knew – if some offer is too good to be true, it’s not true. :)

Now I gave him the QR code, giving him the benefit of doubt and then his associate/friend – Suresh [+918221089635] called that he is Indore. He will make the payment. (to my surprise none of them ever talked about the features, date of purchase or anything about Smart watch, only topic was – share the QR code, we will send the money). I said how will you collect the band? Suresh said, my brother Anil will come and collect from you. I have received the QR code for Google Pay from him. I said ok. (Still strange to me lol). I was ready this must be a fraud. Still played along.

Now comes the real twist in the game – he suddenly called me and told that he has transferred 5k to my account on google pay. I put him on speaker – he instructed me – open your all transactions, then you will see an entry with 5k received, accept the payment, enter the PIN and then check your Account. Here is the screenshot of the 5k deposit notification – if you see the trick is, he wrote in the Comment section – “you received money in your account click to pay now” – it seems that we have received the money. But this is just a comment – this was a request to make payments and not receive.

[you will never get to accept and enter pin to receive the payment]. Here is the google pay screenshot –

  • WhatsApp Image 2019-07-30 at 11.39.57 AM

I called him and told him – you are trying to play smart with me. I know of these fraud cases. He said if you don’t trust me let me do that 1 Rupee. I said ok (fine if I lose 1 rs). He again sent another request for 1 Rs, with misleading comment. I clicked on Pay – and then couple of transactions happens – and eventually I got 1 rs credited to my account. Now if you see the chain of events – first he requested 1 rs, I clicked pay. so he got 1 rs. Now he paid me 1 rs back. So it’s even now. Again he paid 1 rs – so eventually – it appears that 1 rs has been received. (he also don’t mind losing 1 rs). Now as a human tendency – u only see the latest sms, while there were couple more, when I went scrolled up I got to know the whole case. Here are the screenshots of SMSs. First 5k request, then three 1 rs transactions.

  • WhatsApp Image 2019-07-30 at 11.39.57 AM (2)
  • WhatsApp Image 2019-07-30 at 11.39.57 AM (1)

Now I finally called him and told him that who are you trying to fool. I know these tricks. I told him that you wrote misleading comment and then instead of paying, you were requesting 5k from me. I think his plan was to pay 5k to me and then gain my trust and then take remaining 12k in request from me. [7k profit]. Nevertheless, I told him not to do this fraud and my brother is in Cyber Crime team, and I will report you. Also he said I am using Laptop for Google pay, that is why he can only request (I don’t think Google pay works on website, it’s only on the App). He then came in his true color and his native language – May be from some village and then started abusing me. I said you stop doing all this and I am going to report you. Then he asked for Phone Pay.  I said just go away and wait till some cyber team person reaches out to you. I am going to report the above two numbers. Also their whatsapp number is registered as unverified Business Number.

All in all since I declined his 5k request and eventually he paid 1 rupees to me. I got 1 rs in profit today. :) #PoorFakePerson

Java / Salesforce – everyone is confused?

“Hello friends, Shivam here, I am a software engineer and rest is history.” 😛

Aim – This post aims to share my journey in corporate world till date.

So I graduated (B.Tech.) from DAIICT, in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in year 2011. Now what is ICT, don’t ask me, take it is CS/IT. That is what we have done. I got a campus placement in Deloitte and I Joined Deloitte on 27’th June 2011. We were given a hotel stay (Landmark Suites) not food, and let me tell you tea cost you 110 rs each cup. I skipped my lunch that day.

Let’s get technical. So when I joined Deloitte, we had this training of Software engineering course (C, OOPs, Software Development, advanced frameworks). To be honest I somehow used to think, I am at wrong place (every softie thinks that I guess 😛 ), and I should be an animator or Special effect designer. So our 1 month training was finished and I was given a project in Java, a maintenance project. I used to like it in the starting but then, somehow I was not able to generate interest in Java and as a result I was not able to perform as I expected in the project. I got rolled off in 6 months.

In my free time (while I was on bench), I started working on VBA, excel marco and built an application to automate the Birthday email sending process, which helped me to learn things by myself and build a fantastic app, which helped me gain popularity and saved a lot of time for HRs and RMs.

I got the same project back, ,I somehow managed to continue with Java and passed first 3.5 years and managed to get good ratings in the first 2-3 years. Then I asked for volunteer roll off. There was a good amount of politics and back stabbing (ouch that hurts, well back stabbers, I mean humans are there everywhere, so fine 😛 ). I finally got a roll off, after 9 months, with a screwed up rating.

Then I joined another project hoping to get interest in some new technology. This time I chose Adobe Flex and again Java integration with it. I thought I would like it, but the same thing – I didn’t like it, and was not able to perform. Rating was going down, along with the expectation of others and my confidence. I asked my lead and manager to shift me to testing (I was facing some personal and health related problems too). Now by testing, I don’t mean, testing is bad or not worth. Just that I thought at least I would be able to do that, rather than not performing well in development. My project manager and lead said “NO” and also didn’t fulfill their promise of getting my visa done (Visa – H1/L1 is the fruit they make us see and work hard and stay in the firm). Well even I was not performing, I can’t expect them to get my visa done and I was not even sure, whether I want to continue in development or do MBA or take “Sanyas” and become spiritual guru.

Finally after some fighting and lot of efforts, after trying my hands on Java and VBA, I heard about Salesforce and it’s increasing popularity. So I asked my Senior Manager for a shift in to Salesforce technology. He agreed (Thanks god I had couple of good contacts in the firm), and asked me to wait for 3 months, till the next batch of training starts.

So I waited, got out of Adobe Flex project and got into Performance testing for 3 months. Well I was of the thought – “I can spend/waste my first 4/6 years to find out what I like, and then live my rest of professional years in peace and work with a happy mood”. So I was ready to try all the technologies to figure out what would I like to continue the rest of my life.

Performance testing was good, I got good learning, but after some time it became repetitive and even market is not good as compared to Salesforce (SFDC). I knew, I don’t want to do this rest of my life.

Then I finally got the chance to attend the internal Salesforce cross training. Training was not very good, but I got a chance to change my technology (Though I was working on Salesforce from 2’nd year only, as an extra project in Deloitte). This was my official technology change.

If I compare SFDC with Java, I find Java harder and difficult to master, as it is very vast and is there in the market for a very long period. So we have experts in Java who are ready to work for lesser money and as a result package goes down, while the competition goes up. Basically life is full of ups and downs.

While in SFDC, it’s pretty new and there are not many good developers in the market. The main thing is, we can see something working on the application, which makes you feel good and let’s you feel, you have developed something. Also you don’t have to take care of making connection, instantiating Objects, using polymorphism  and overloading and overriding your mind without any gain. Why do a thing, which is already there.

SFDC provide you to concentrate on your basic functionality and not waste time to creating objects (though code) and then making connection, closing them, making queries. And those irritating joins, which breaks the link of you and your life. 😛 (Joins pe Joins, Joins pe Joins..fkin Joins). Well now you know I hate Joins.

Well there was this girl I used to like, but …..oh sorry back to Salesforce, these Joins makes u lose ur focus.

So Salesforce is pretty easy, if you have worked hard for Java (my case, I have worked really hard in Java). So the triggers and coding was a simple thing for me, I picked it up well and started to like it. Now I am planning to appear for certifications in SFDC.

I am still trying to learn and become an expert in SFDC, and life is going on. (I got married too, during this technology shift and this was the reason I didn’t got the promotion and a bad rating).

But as I like the Salesforce, I got an offer from BMC, Pune and have shifted to Pune now. This is my first company change. And the learning goes on…

All the best for your future, just one thing – “Figure out what you want to do the rest of your life, even if that accounts to bad ratings. You will be able to achieve great heights doing things what you actually like and enjoy it. And yeah get married to the right girl (marry a boy, if you are a girl and of straight orientation) and don’t set too much expectations in front of anyone.” :)

Android App – Ulcerative Colitis – Reason and Cure

UC

If you don’t know about Ulcerative Colitis or IBD ( Inflammatory bowel diseases), you can go and read about this here.

Here is a link to the Video for the Exercise (Yoga) that you need to do.

For me – I was able to defeat this disease and now completely out of medication from last 11 months (UC Medicines) and my wife and family played a crucial role in the battle.

“People may say it’s remission, but I get the symptoms a little, and my doctor says it’s not remission and I have also stopped Calcium supplements from last 11 Months” :)

So I thought of sharing my experience with you guys. Happy Reading. Hope I would be able to help. :)

[Now I am not saying that this will work for you or you should also follow it. This is what have worked for me. You need to figure out a way for yourself and please be in constant consultation of a Good Doctor.]

These diseases are one of the most difficult ones to have, as they will keep reminding you about their existence time and time (in every half and hour). Let me try to explain how I got this, what were the symptoms, what problems I faced, how I dealt with it and how I defeated it. :)

My Story of UC (Ulcerative Colitis)

How I got it?

Before I go ahead and explain my situation, let me share the endoscopy snapshot and  other reports. [This is for those people, who thinks, I am faking this and all the story is fake]

The cause and the reason of UC is still unknown, some says it’s because of the modern lifestyle, some says it’s hereditary, some suggests it originates with stress and a particular food habit. While we still can only guess the cause of it, for me – we don’t have this to any of the family member (nor do we have a history of IBD in our family).

As per my discussion with various doctors and consultants, who in turn had a discussion with my parents, I had frequent signs of lose motions from my childhood only. While Milk was my favorite drink from childhood only, it is also one of the agent which deteriorate UC conditions. Now I can’t say that I have got this disease due to my food habit, lifestyle or stress, but for sure this has came into light in recent years only (6 years). As per my conversations and research, I had this from childhood, just that it never came into picture.

So we can safely assume that this will not happen due to your habit or lifestyle or diet, but yeah those are governing factors.

Symptoms And Problems

It’s symptoms are very bad. You need to visit washroom many a times (may be thrice in an hour, through out the day), dependent on the severity of the disease. Now because of this you will lose weight, won’t be able to eat properly, won’t be able to be away from washroom for a longer time, won’t be able to perform heavy physical or mentally tough tasks. Your mood will also be on a bitter side, you won’t like talking to anyone, you might just withdraw from life and people. Most important thing – you will have continuous cramps in stomach, mostly when you eat something. That will keep reminding you that you got UC. Eventually blood will start coming out, when you visit washroom. But don’t worry if you have UC, everything is manageable – just keep on reading. :)

Dealing with it

It becomes very difficult to maintain your regular routine, be it meeting with your friends, family members, office colleagues. Going to office regularly and completing the work on time, attending meetings, family functions, taking vacations.

In one sentence – life becomes difficult to live. As you can’t carry on regular way of life, and people start thinking, you are not giving them enough time. Your boss and HR will think you are absconding, your family will miss the real you. You will decline all the offers for parties and outing as you can’t be away from washroom for too long. Even when away you feel the pain and urge to go continuously.

Understand this UC

Now the most important thing you need to understand – is the nature of this disease, how it aggravates and how to take care of yourself and your life during this phase. You need to figure out the pattern, food habits, lifestyle and what suits you and what not. You need to understand the way it works, what is making this happen and how you can manage it.

How I defeated it – My Story

Now let me tell you my real life story, what happened to me and where am I today, which might help others deal with it. So here we go –

So, as I already told you, I had this tendency of getting frequent lose motions since my childhood. I can safely assume that it was there with me since my birth. Now I left my hometown (Ratlam, MP), after 10’th standard, to study for IIT JEE and AIEEE in Kota, Rajasthan. That is when it all started to come up.

2004 – Those aware of Kota Coaching classes and the life there, we take baked samosa (pattis), cream roll, poha, kachori, jalebi as our snacks, that too oat odd timings (sometimes 4 AM in the morning), and sleep.

Also our lunch and dinner is prepared by Mess or tiffin wala, which don’t actually maintain that good quality which can match ghar ka khana. Also the content of Maida in Flour is considerable (so that students don’t eat much), which also gets accumulated in the stomach and doesn’t get digested easily. Also I was a fan of tea, so which helped increasing the acidity level. And the most important thing, the time table or routine that we follow there – exactly opposite to nature, makes your body confused. Then there is mental pressure on you to perform and secure good college and earn money and all.

2007 – 3 Years in Kota, then I went to Gandhinagar, Guajart for my college studies. There also we had canteen, where we used to get Maida mix chappatis in canteen and also we can order tandoori maida/aata roti from various counters. Most important meal of the day is breakfast, which we used to miss because of habit of getting up late in the morning and rushing for classes. Now the continuous intake of junk food, tea, bad routine, study pressure and some personal issues took a toll on my health in 3’rd year end (2010). At that time I was not even able to eat a single chappati and it took me very long time to get fresh. I had continuous acidity and gas problem and was running on juices. Then we went to Vadora, had my endoscopy done and doctors told me – there is no issue and you just need to take Isabhghol  with hot water or milk. Well that helped then and I was able to eat properly, but I had to spend a lot time to get fresh and gas problem was still there. From then I had to go fresh before having any meal and my stomach always felt heavy.

2015 – Now I have moved to Mumbai to work in an IT consultancy firm. But I always used to feel that my stomach is heavy, even without eating anything. But in the year 2015, when I had to face couple of changes in my life, some related to professional life – I don’t used to like my work and the project at that time, as I wanted to work on some other technology. My personal life was also not going very good, also my family was forcing me too get married. All of my close friends in my company either left or went to onsite at the same time and I was left all alone. So all in all I was not happy with my work, I had no close friends, I started to worry about my financial status. Thing started piling up. I was losing hope, as lose motion started, which made me lose 15 kgs of weight in just 3 weeks, I was not able to eat anything. Blood started coming out. I had to stop milk, tea and all the milk products (cheese, butter etc). I can’t eat raw fruits and vegetables or junk food. In one line – I was not able to live the life I wanted to live. It became so severe that even after taking medicines for 2 months and getting checked for lose motions, nothing happened. I had to get hospitalized and get my endoscopy done for the second time.

That is when I came to know that I had Level 4, Chronic Phase – Ulcerative Colitis. Level 4 is the last stage you can tell. They had to admit me for 2 days, I extended it as I was liking the luxury hospital and my company was paying for the bills. I was kept on Steroids and was asked to stop milk and all the milk products (which have lactose), as I am lactose intolerant and this will make the condition worse. While I was on medication, things were fine. But then after 15 days even steroids were not working excellently and doctor was confused, why my body is not reacting properly. She told me that you have this disease with you for last 6 years (which was college, 3’rd year) and this has come up now in the bad form.

Then the tougher time started and with UC, I had a bike accident in Mumbai Pune highway. I got 2 rib fracture and had to stay and work from home for around 6 months. I was very upset that I won’t be able to drink milk and it’s product through out my life. Job, personal life, financial status, my performance, my social circle everything was affected by this. I was losing hope and decided to withdraw from my social life and stayed in my room for days.

While I was visiting the top most doctor for India, for UC and IBD. She was not able to help me (sometimes I left the medicine course in between). I was put on Steroids thrice. So nothing was working for me – and the doctor herself has clarified that cause is not know and we can only go with – hit and trial for your disease.

2016 – Now one fine day, my uncle was about to visit me in Mumbai, as his son has to join an IT firm here. So he was scheduled to arrive at 6:30 AM to my place and then we have planned to visit Sidhivinayak Temple in Mumbai. Also all this time, I never told my family and fiance (I was engaged by then) about the severity of this disease and my bike accident. But in front of my family I had to act normal, like there is no issue and I am completely fine. Generally I used to get up at 11 AM in the morning, but on that day I had to get up at 6 AM, I got ready, had a bath this early (I used to bath at 9 PM in the night).

I was feeling very fresh, asked me cook to cook poha for us (being from MP, we love it with namkeen). When my uncle came I acted that I am happy and normal, I was faking a smile all the time. We had breakfast, then we left for Sidhi vinayak Temple, came back to home. Now my uncle asked me to leave for office and they will proceed for the hotel that was given by the company, so that he can make arrangements for my brother there. So in order to show him that I go to office regularly. I packed my bag and left for office, after 6 long months. There I was in office, had my breakfast, visited the temple, made arrangements for my uncle and it was just 11 AM. I mean that day – my day just started and I was all set. I felt good and also realized at the end of the day, when I came back from office (8 PM), that I didn’t go to washroom that many times and was able to keep a check on my body function, as I was ready for this situation and was able to command my mind and body.

This is when I realized the cure of Ulcerative Colitis is “Acting”, acting to be fit and make your mind and body think that you are fine, and there is nothing.

I also went to best homeopathy and Ayurveda doctors, did my through research and read about this disease. The reason why Science don’t have a medicine for this disease, because “UC is not a disease, it’s a body function” , so how can Medicine have a cure for something which is not a disease.

So the first thing we need to do it – stop calling it a disease and treat it as a normal body function like inhaling, digestion. It’s just that your body is thinking that whatever you are eating is external element (germs) and your body (small intestine) is working to get it out as soon as possible. Which is why you have to visit washroom so frequently. Cramps are a result of the Ulcers in your intestine’s wall and when it erodes blood comes out. So there is nothing to worry. In fact you got a super power that you can digest very fast.

Now what you need to do here is –

Act you don’t have anything and you are completely fine – you will be fine.

Eat small meals in every 3/4 hours [Avoid eating food items that will harm you – you can easily make a list of your own – what suits you and what not] In general you should avoid Milk and Milk products which have lactose (Cheese, ghee, Butter, Sweets) but you can take curd, butter milk, Paneer (These are actually good for u). You should also avoid eating food high in fiber, iron, which have lot of seeds. Always eat fresh and well cooked, warm food. Don’t take raw fruits, vegetables and fast food. Basically eat all which is easy to digest and don’t have lactose.

Manage your time table around your life and make your body ready for that. [You might have to go to washroom couple of times a day (I visit around 5- 7 times a day). Just make sure whenever you are going out or in a meeting, you visit washroom first. Make your mind ready that I might not get a washroom for next 4/5 hours – your body will be ready for that.]

Start doing some (mild) exercises along with Yoga. Best Yog Aasan for this is Kapal Bhati. Do some jogging, push ups which help in good blood circulation.

Here is a link to the Yog asaan which can help – Kapal Bhati

Benefits of UC

You must be wondering, how can you have benefits of UC? Well for me I was not able to eat properly for last 6 years, as I always felt my stomach heavy and used to take a lot of time in washroom. But now –

I feel my stomach very light, and able to eat and enjoy all the food items. I don’t eat food which causes me any issues or hard to digest. Also I eat a small quantity n a regular interval.

I somehow feel that I have gained courage, confidence, physical and mental strength to do things. I can now remember more things easily and have become a quick learner (which I was not).

I have become very fast and can get jobs done quickly.

Feeling of taking charge of my UC, I feel happy and able to enjoy my life to the fullest. Now I attend all the events, meet friends, go on long drives, give time for office work.

Just last words from me – Be Confident and take charge of your body and it’s function – You can defeat anything.

Please comment you views and suggestion here, I would love to hear and discuss it with you guys.

If you have something to discuss or want to ask something – do buzz me.

All the best for your future. Take Care. :)

[Also please be in doctor consultation, as situation might differ from person to person.]
